As she lay in the hospital bed, with one leg amputated, Arunima Sinha took a vow that many would think impossible. Her goal, from that day onwards, was not just to become adept at walking with a prosthetic leg but scale the highest point in the world–Mount Everest.
It was a feat–which many would consider impossible–that not only brought back her self confidence but made her an inspiration for everyone back home. Even before the horrible accident which left her an amputee, Sinha was a force to reckon with.
As a national level volleyball player, she already was in possession of an indomitable spirit. When a few robbers pushed her out of a moving train in 2011, resulting in her getting seriously injured, she decided that she would not cower down but fight back. “I was an amputee now, and people were looking at me with pity in their eyes. I decided then and there that I would do something to prove myself. And mountaineering was the only option. It was the only option where there were no chances of saying sorry. If you committed a mistake, life would be the one saying sorry to you,” she says.

For the next two years, she trained continuously in mountain by Srijani Ganguly ous regions. There was “no Sunday, no Diwali and no Holi” for her. Nothing could waver her from her goal. Her first feat on the way to the summit was wrought with injury. She was so happy to have reached the base camp that she lost her balance and fell to the ground, injuring herself in the process. Mistakes, in fact, came and went on her way to the top.
There were many points in the trek where there were no ladders to support her to the other side of the wide gap. She was forced to, on such instances, jump across gaps which if she missed, would have ended her life. Once, she came across a point where her legs gave way.
She crept to the ground while people behind her in the queue made a fuss about the delay. One man in particular asked her to keep moving, incessantly. As Sinha placed herself out of the queue, he charged ahead, overtaking many in the process.
A little ahead, the man–who was not wearing a helmet–was hit by a small icicle at the back of his head. He fell to the ground, bleeding from his head. “Anything can happen at anytime on the mountains,” says Sinha while emphasising the fact that certain things like helmets and gloves are absolutely necessary while climbing.
It was something that the man shouldn’t have compromised on. On the day she attempted to summit the Mount Everest, she and her sherpa were the first to leave the camp. But as time went by, they were overtaken by many.
Daylight too left them behind. When she and her sherpa were quite near the summit, her sherpa presented her with some bad news. Their oxygen levels were fast depleting, and they had to come back the next day for another attempt.
“I felt really bad at that time but I knew I couldn’t go back. I told the sherpa I wouldn’t, and even tried reasoning with him. When he refused to listen to me, I told him, ‘Fine, if you want to come then come. Otherwise, I’ll go on my own.’ The moment I said those words, and placed a foot ahead, I found that my sherpa was right behind me. After that, he never left my side. Two hours later, we were at the peak,” says Sinha.
She still can’t fully explain that feeling, of spending those few six to seven minutes on the summit. “I felt like throwing my arms in the air and screaming,” she says. “I wanted to tell everyone that I’m on top of the world, especially to those people who thought a woman and an amputee couldn’t do it. I took off my mask and screamed, and my sherpa just stared at me.”
It was here where she also had an epiphany of sorts. She thanked those who made fun of her and called her crazy. “I used to feel bad when people called me crazy, when I was on my hospital bed and planning to climb the Everest. But now when people call me crazy about my goals, I feel happy. Now I understand, if people say you are crazy about your goal that means your goal is very close.”
Arunima Sinha has been featured as one of the ‘People of the Year’ in the 27th edition (2016) of Limca Book of Records.

Once upon a time, there was a very lazy man who would always look for an easier way to feed himself. One day while he was searching for something to eat, he saw the fruit farm. He looked around and didn’t see anyone guarding the fruits on the tree, so he quickly decided to steal some fruits. But as soon as he walked into the farm and started to climb the tree, the farmer saw him and started coming at him to catch him. The lazy man saw the farmer coming at him with a stick, he got afraid and ran towards the forest nearby and went inside it to hide.
After some time when he felt he started to move on from the forest and while passing through, he saw the wonderful scene. There was a fox. It had only two legs and still was crawling on them happily. The lazy man thought, how can this fox stay alive in such condition?! The fox can’t run, how he must be able to feed himself or stay alive from the threat of other animals.
Suddenly, he saw the lion coming towards the fox with a piece of meat already in his mouth. All the animals ran away and the lazy man climbed up on the tree to save himself but, the fox stayed there only, he didn’t have the ability to run on two legs. But what happened next surprised the lazy man. The lion left a piece of meat which was in his mouth for the fox!
The lazy man felt happy seeing god’s play. He thought the god who is the creator of all, always has a plan set to take care of what he created. He felt that god must have something planned for him too. So, he left that place and sat somewhere away alone waiting for someone to feed him too. As time starting to pass, he kept looking at the road, waiting for his food. He waited there for 2 days without any food! Finally, he couldn’t bear the hunger and started to leave.
He met an old sage (a wise person famed for wisdom) on the way. He told everything happened to the sage. The sage first gave him some food and water. After having it, the lazy man asked the sage, “oh wise one, the god had shown his mercy on the crippled fox, but why the god was so cruel to me?”
The old sage with a smile said, “True that the creator has a plan for everyone. You are obviously a part of the god’s plan. But Son, You took his sign in a wrong way. He didn’t want you to be like the fox. He wanted you to be like the Lion”.
Moral: Often we misunderstand the signs. God has given everyone a strength and ability to do their part. Always learn to see the things in a positive way and see yourself in a strong position to help the ones who need. Don’t go for the easy choice. Make a right choice.

I believe everyone has unique skills and talents, and that is what makes each one of us special. People have skills in areas such as playing an instrument, playing sports, being artistic, acting, singing, cookin, swimming and many more. People realize their talents at different stages in their lives. Giving back to the community by sharing the skill I have is what makes the difference. Everyone has at least one thing they are really good at. When each of us brings our individual talents together, the world becomes a masterpiece painting.
Everyone is born with potential to do extraordinary in life. Unfortunately, we settled ordinary. When someone asks what our talent is, we think for a while and say that we do not have any talent. In most cases, we have never tried to explore our talent. Everyone is unique in one way or other. Even if you examine a person with disabilities, you will find something special within him. Therefore, Never ever, doubt your existence in this world.
Sometimes we simply forget it. Do you remember when you buy some festival materials to decorate your home? You use it for a few days and then keep it in store to use it later. Many years later when you are cleaning your home, you eventually find your materials. Then you realize that you almost forget it.
If you do not use things for a while, you certainly forget about them. The same happen with talent. Do you forget something that was your speciality once? Let us see how to find the gift that nature given us.

As Buddha said, “Everyone is gifted here, but some of us never opened their package”.
Where can you find your talent? You can find it in your hobbies. You may be born with some natural gift. You can find your talent in your skills acquired during education. It may be in the form of writing, speaking, programming, designing, painting, singing, or managing employees or customer. It may be decorating home or cooking. It could be anything.
Sometimes we simply ignore our talent because it seems an ordinary thing to us. For an example as a homemaker, you prepare food for your family. You know that you cook well and you like it doing. Therefore, you might be asking yourself, “How can it be a talent? This is my regular work and every homemaker like me is doing it.”
There should be no question to talent as big, small or ordinary talent. A talent is a talent. If anyone asks you, what your talent is? Say it proudly that, “I can cook well”. If you appreciate your talent, you give it a new direction to evolve. You never know where it may take you in your life.
I would like to share a story which I read from a book “Some animals in a forest decided to start a school. The students included a bird, a squirrel, a fish, a dog, a rabbit and a mentally retarded eel. A board was formed to determine the curriculum and it was decided that flying, tree climbing, swimming, and burrowing would give a broad-based education. All animals were required to take all subjects.
The bird was excellent at flying and was getting A’s but when it came to burrowing, it kept breaking its beak and wings and started failing. Pretty soon, it started making C’s in flying and, of course, in tree climbing and swimming it was getting F’s. The squirrel was great at tree climbing, but was failing in swimming. The fish was the best swimmer but couldn’t get out of the water and thus got F’s in everything else.
The dog didn’t join the school, stopped paying taxes and kept fighting with the administration to include barking as part of the curriculum. The rabbit got A’s in burrowing but tree climbing was a real problem. It kept falling and landing on its head, suffered brain damage and soon couldn’t even burrow properly and got C’s in that too.
The mentally retarded eel, who did everything half as well, became the valedictorian of the class. The board was happy because everybody was getting a broad- based education.
A true broad-based education prepares students for life, without losing their areas of specialisation and competence.
We are All Gifted with Some Strengths
The small size of the hummingbird, weighing only a tenth of an ounce, gives it the flexibility to perform complicated maneuvers, such as beating its wings seventy-five times a second. This enables the hummingbird to drink nectar from flowers while hovering, but it cannot soar, glide or hop. The ostrich, at 300 pounds, is the largest bird, but it can’t fly. However, its legs are so strong that it can run at up to fifty miles per hour, taking strides of twelve to fifteen feet.

I would like to touch your hands with Smile of humanity and want to say let us bring out our hidden talent to show that we are not nothing we are something from our heart this is my new year resolution and hope everyone will have their resolution to bring success in our life.

Girl: I met with a car accident, and was in the hospital paralysed for a year .. I only fully recovered 6 months ago. Everyone thought I was going to die, but the thought of seeing you kept me alive. When I got better, I planned to come and see you to surprise you, you told me you would only want to go to this university so I applied here too.

MORAL OF STORY
True love will always find it’s way; No matter what obstacles are in it’s path. If your love is true; Just wait for it to find you.
Note: This story is collected from a love story book.
Attitudes are a secret power working 24 hours a day, for good or bad.

A Definition Of Attitude
Think of your attitude as the mental filter through which you experience the world. Some people see the world through the filter of optimism (the glass being half full) while others see life through a filter of pessimism (the glass being half empty). Let me give you some examples to explain the difference between a positive attitude and a negative attitude.
Ability teaches us how we do, motivation determines why we do, and attitude decides how well we do.
There was a man who made his living selling balloons at a fair. He had balloons of many different colors, including red, yellow, blue and green. Whenever business was slow, he would release a helium-filled balloon into the air. When the children saw the balloon go up, they all wanted one. They would come up to him, buy a balloon and his sales would go up. All day, he continued to release a balloon whenever sales were slow. One day, the balloon man felt someone tugging at his jacket. He turned around and a little boy asked, “If you release a black balloon, will that also fly?” Moved by the boy’s concern, the man replied gently, “Son, it is not the color of the balloon, it is what’s inside that makes it go up.”
THE same principle applies to our lives: It’s what’s inside that counts and what’s inside of us that makes us go up is our attitude. William James of Harvard University said, “The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.”
Most of us have heard of the power of positive thinking but very few have heard of the power of negative thinking. They both are very powerful but take us in totally opposite directions. Just the way positive thinking empowers people to achieve new heights, negative thinking propels people towards self-destruction.
YOUR ATTITUDE CONTRIBUTES TO SUCCESS
A study attributed to Harvard University found that when a person gets a job or a promotion, eighty-five percent of the time it is because of his attitude, and only fifteen percent of the time because of intelligence and knowledge of specific facts and figures. Isn’t it surprising then, that almost hundred per cent of education dollars go to teach facts and figures, which account for only fifteen percent of success in life!
You can win is all about that eighty-five percent of success. Attitude is the most important word in the English language. It applies to every sphere of life, including one’s personal and professional life. Can an executive be a good executive without a good attitude? Can a student be a good student without a good attitude? Can parents, teachers, salespersons, employers or employees be good in their roles without a good attitude?
The foundation of success, regardless of your chosen field, is attitude.
If attitude is such a critical factor in success, shouldn’t we examine our attitude towards life and ask how our attitude will affect our lives?
ACRES OF DIAMONDS
Hafiz was a farmer in Africa who was happy and content. He was happy because he was content. He was content because he was happy. One day a wise man came and told him about the glory of diamonds and the power that goes along with them. The wise man said, “If you had a diamond the size of your thumb, you could buy your own city. If you had a diamond the size of your fist, you could probably buy your own country.” And then the wise man left. That night, Hafiz couldn’t sleep. He was unhappy and he was discontented. He was unhappy because he was discontented and discontented because he was unhappy.
The next morning Hafiz made arrangements to sell his farm, took care of his family and went off in search of diamonds. He looked all over Africa and couldn’t find any. He looked all through Europe and couldn’t find any. By the time he got to Spain, he was emotionally, physically and financially broke. He was so disheartened that he threw himself into the Barcelona river and committed suicide.
Back home, the person who had bought his farm was watering the camels at the stream that ran through the farm. Across the stream, the rays of the morning sun hit a stone and made it sparkle like a rainbow. He thought the stone would look good in his living room. He picked up the stone and put it on his mantle piece. That afternoon, the wise man came and saw the stone sparkling. He asked, “Is Hafiz back?” The new owner said, “No, why do you ask?” The wise man said, “Because that is a diamond. I recognise one when I see one.” The man said, “No, that’s just a stone I picked up from the stream. Come I’ll show you. There are many more.” They went and picked some samples and sent them for analysis. Sure enough, the stones were diamonds. They found that the farm was indeed covered with acres and acres of diamonds.
What is the moral of this story?
There are many morals:
1. When our attitude is right, we realise that we are all walking on acres of diamonds. Opportunities are always under our feet. We don’t have to go anywhere.
2. When we don’t know how to recognize opportunity, it could slap us on our face and we would still not be able to recognize it. All we need to do is to learn to recognize opportunities.
3. People, who don’t know how to recognise opportunities, complain of noise when they knock.
4. Lost opportunities are easier recognised when they are leaving rather than when they are coming.
5. An opportunity only knocks once. The next one may be better or worse, but never the same one. That is why it is so crucial to make the right decision at the right time. A right decision at the wrong time becomes a wrong decision.
Our attitude determines how we look at a setback. To a positive thinker, a setback can be a stepping-stone to success. To a negative thinker, it can be a stumbling block. Great thinkers and philosophers feel and believe that every problem comes with an equal or greater opportunity for success.
THE BENEFITS OF A POSITIVE ATTITUDE
There are many benefits of having a positive attitude. The advantages are easy to see. But unfortunately, sometimes what is easy to see is also easy to miss!
A positive attitude:
• Makes for a pleasing personality
• Is energizing & invigorating
• Gives fulfillment and makes life meaningful
• Inspires oneself and others
• Helps people become contributing members and assets to society
• Increases productivity & profits
• Fosters teamwork & better relationships
• Solves problems & makes positive decisions
• Brings pride in performance and improves quality
• Makes for a congenial atmosphere
• Breeds loyalty & dependability
• Reduces stress & increases happiness
• In other words, a positive attitude leads to a happy, healthy & prosperous life.
THE CONSEQUENCES OF A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE
Life is an obstacle course and we become our biggest obstacle by having a negative attitude. People with negative attitudes have a hard time keeping friendships, jobs, marriages and relationships. Negative attitudes lead to:
• Bitterness
• Discontentment
• A purposeless life
• High stress for self and others
• Resentment
• Frustration
• Ill health
Negative attitudes create an unpleasant environment at home, at work and in society. They pass on their negativity to others around them. People with negative attitudes become a liability to society.
Do attitudes go from one generation to the next?
Absolutely. No wonder we find some families and societies more positive than others.
Have a wonderful day! If you enjoyed this post, please share!

Once upon a time, there was a Kingdom. The king there only had one leg and one eye, but he was very intelligent and kind. Everyone in his kingdom lived a happy and a healthy life because of their king. One day the king was walking through the palace hallway and saw the portraits of his ancestors. He thought that one day his children will walk in the same hallway and remember all the ancestors through these portraits.
But, the king did not have his portrait painted. Due to his physical disabilities, he wasn’t sure how his painting would turn out. So he invited many famous painters from his and other kingdoms to the court. The king then announced that he wants a beautiful portrait made of himself to be placed in the palace. Any painter who can carry out this should come forward. He will be rewarded based on how the painting turns up.
All of the painters began to think that the king only has one leg and one eye. How can his picture be made very beautiful? It is not possible and if the picture does not turn out to look beautiful then the king will get angry and punish them. So one by one, all started to make excuses and politely declined to make a painting of the king.
But suddenly one painter raised his hand and said that I will make a very beautiful portrait of you which you will surely like. The king became happy hearing that and other painters got curious. The king gave him the permission and the painter started drawing the portrait. He then filled the drawing with paints. Finally, after taking a long time, he said that the portrait was ready!
All of the courtiers, other painters were curious and nervous thinking, How can the painter make the king’s portrait beautiful because the king is physically disabled? What if the king didn’t like the painting and gets angry? But when the painter presented the portrait, everyone in the court, including the king, left stunned.
The painter made a portrait in which the king was sitting on the horse, on the one-leg side, holding his bow and aiming the arrow with his one eye closed. The king was very pleased to see that the painter has made a beautiful portrait by cleverly hiding the king’s disabilities. The King gave him a great reward.
Moral Of The Story
We should always think positive of others and ignore their deficiencies. We should learn to focus on the good things instead of trying to hide weaknesses. If we think and approach positively even in a negative situation, then we will be able to solve our problems more efficiently.
